Two Nigerians and a local taxi driver were remanded to prison when they appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.The men Victor Ozokwe,Jerseys From China, 35,NFL Jerseys Cheap, and Udoya Emeka,NFL Jerseys China, 31,NFL Jerseys China, and taxi driver, Gavin Mark, allegedly had in their possession 4 kilos 750 grams of cocaine on March 20,Cheap Jerseys From China, at Essequibo. They all pleaded not guilty to the charge.The two Nigerians were represented by attorney at law Sasha Roberts,Cheap Jerseys From China, in association with Adrian Thompson.The lawyer in her bail application told the court that the two Nigerians are construction workers residing permanently in Suriname.She explained that the police only arrested her clients because of an allegation someone made.Roberts told the magistrate that both clients vehemently deny the allegations and are ready to vindicate their innocence.She noted to the court that both Nigerians were merely passengers in the taxi which was driven by Mark.Attorney at law Roger Yearwood, who represented the taxi driver, stated that his client is gainfully employed as a taxi driver and has been so for the past 18 years.He told the court that Mark is a father of five.Gavin MarkYearwood added that after the police arrested his client they told him about the allegation and he quickly took them to the destination where he dropped off the two Nigerians.The lawyer admitted that he knows that quantum was significant but urged the court to take into consideration the circumstances in which he was charged.“My worship the court should show some sympathy to Mark because he was merely a taxi driver” Yearwood added.However Police Prosecutor Joel Riknauth objected to bail and told the court a different version of events.The prosecutor explained that Mark drove away from the police when they attempted to stop the vehicle.He added that someone informed the police about the drugs. The men were all remanded and are expected to make another court appearance on Monday. The matter was also transferred to the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.The same defendants also appeared before the Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson charged with failing to stop motor vehicle and illegal entry respectively.Taxi driver Gavin Mark pleaded not guilty to a charge, which stated that he failed to stop motor vehicle HB 5196 on March 20.The two Nigerians were charged for illegal entry. The allegation was that the two men entered Guyana by land and failed to register with an immigration officer. Both Nigerians pleaded guilty to the allegation.A fine of $30,000 was imposed on each of them and they were ordered to be deported.However the men would have to await the completion of the narcotics matter.
